Discovering Purpose and Destiny

Updated: Dec 2, 2019

You are a person of destiny. You are equipped. You are talented. You are creative. You were designed for a purpose. (Life Quotes)

Many people wake up every day, go to work or school, then return home only to do it again and again and again. It seems so routine and monotonous, and it leaves many asking, “Is this all there is?”

On the other hand, there are others who lead exciting lives going to exotic destinations, partying, and buying expensive things, but they’re unfulfilled. They come to the place where they begin to do some soul searching and many eventually ask the same question, “Is this all there is?” No, it isn’t, there is more. The question is, do you want it?

We live in the consumer age where we spend large amounts of money on fancy new gadgets and electronics. Each of these items has a creator or manufacturer, and was developed as a solution to meet a particular need that humanity has. Every item goes through research and development to ensure that it is fit for use and when it is ready for sale, it is packaged with an instruction manual to teach us how to use it for best results.

But how many of us read the manual before we start using the product? If you’re like me you will eagerly rip off the package, pull the manual out and put it aside, and just start using the product. When I bought my first tablet I was so excited to hold this wonder of [then] new technology in my hand. Forget about the manual! Once it was charged, I turned on the power button and got busy swiping and typing. Then I tried to connect to the internet and started having problems. Although it was straight forward, I was missing a key step because I didn’t read the manual first. What do electronics have to do with your purpose and destiny?

I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5)

Jeremiah’s purpose was to be a prophet to the nation of Israel. Likewise, every human being came into the world to fulfill a unique purpose. We also come with our own manual for living called the Bible, but just like we do with the manual that comes with our merchandises, many have tossed it aside as irrelevant, which causes humanity to function at less than optimal levels.

Your purpose is designed and determined by God and your destiny is determined by you. Your purpose is designed to be fulfilled at a specific time according to God’s calendar.

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ecc. 3:1).

Even though our purpose is set by God, we don’t readily know what it is and therefore must spend some time discovering it. What is it that you were born to do? How will you serve humanity with your unique purpose? What solutions do you have trapped inside you that will make the world a better place?

Your destiny is attached to the choices that you make for your life. For example, you may have a passion to work in the medical field. You can choose to become a doctor, or you may learn to be a medical lab technician. Either way you are working in the medical field but where you end up was determined by the choice you made.

Your destiny must be aligned with your purpose. Your purpose flows out of your passion. What are you passionate about? What are your natural gifts and talents? If you haven’t figured out your purpose yet, these questions will help you to start thinking about it.

Remember to also consult the Heavenly Father for guidance. He is the one who created the product called YOU, therefore He knows the purpose that he had in mind when He created you. You may also connect with us and we will coach you through the discovery process. What were you created for?
