Empowered To Thrive

Module 9 -
Rediscovering the TRUE YOU

Choose your tribe prayerfully. "Your life will resemble those with whom you assemble." (Dr. Cindy Trimm)

Step 4 - Determine Your Associations

It is said that the quality of a product is determined by the manufacturer. Who or what you identify with determines who you become, as well as your purpose and destiny. In Module 2 you learned that your identity first begins in God. Other factors that influence identity are family heritage, culture and environment. Friends, associates, business partners and co-workers can also have an impact on who you become.

You may have heard the saying, birds of a feather flock together, or you resemble those with whom you assemble. It is also said that your life will look like that of the five people closest to you, or your reference group. Take a look at who is around you and see if these statements hold true. Do an examination of your closest associates and see if you need to make any changes.

It is good to associate with people who are ahead of you personally, professionally, emotionally and spiritually. It will take you out of your comfort zone, and it will encourage you to reach beyond yourself to grow beyond your current level.

Exercise 9

You will know if you need to change by any of the following:

  • Are others ahead of you?

  • Are you being continuously challenged?

  • Are you focusing forward, or looking backward?

  • Is it an affirming atmosphere?

  • Do you feel like you’re out of your comfort zone?

  • Are you excited to be around them, or to do what you’re doing?

  • Am I confident even though it seems like I’m failing?

  • Are you and others growing?

  • Do they have integrity?

  • Are they positive?

  • Is growth modelled and expected?

Do an inventory of your ‘yes’ answers to determine if it’s time for a change.
