Empowered To Thrive

Module 7 -
Rediscovering the TRUE YOU

The mind is the most powerful thing on the planet, and if you don't use it you will lose it. (Karlene Millwood)

Step 2 - Renew Your Mind

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

(Romans 12:2)

Every human being thinks and feels differently. No two humans were designed to process information in the same way. Your life progresses in the direction of your thoughts, so it is important to pay attention to what you think about constantly. You create long-term memories by the emotions, feelings and thoughts that you think about consistently over time. These become a natural part of you and helps to create your identity.

Your environment, experiences and associations create your thought processes. As humans, we use the past to judge the present and prognosticate about the future. Some of these thought processes are limiting and can hold us back, so they have to change. When you shift out of wrong thinking into right thinking, your emotional and intellectual reality also changes. Changing your mind changes the way your brain functions. It ignites it to function correctly in the love zone, and may even help you to use more of it than you would normally use.

To maintain a healthy outlook on life your words and actions must be in complete alignment with your thoughts, emotions and choices, for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he… (Prov.23:7). Thoughts produce words that produce actions that produce habits. The most powerful expression of thought is the spoken word, so if you think rightly, you will speak rightly. Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit-you choose. (Prov. 18:21).

Exercise 7

You renew your mind by actively focusing on what you are thinking about.

  • In your quiet time ask God to show you if you have any toxic or limiting thoughts and beliefs that need to change.

  • Acknowledge whatever He reveals to you in your heart and ask for forgiveness, if necessary.

  • Ask Him to take it away completely.

  • Visualize yourself giving it to Him and Him taking it from you.

  • Thank Him for taking it from you and healing you.

  • Ask Him to give you new thoughts to replace the old ones.

  • Thank Him for the new thoughts.

  • Now begin to focus on them and strengthen them.

  • Repeat this exercise regularly throughout the program. I suggest that you adopt it as a part of your daily meditation routine.
